1200 BC- 1500 ADAnasazi and Hohokam civilizations flourish.
1848Most of northern Arizona becomes US Territory following the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo which officialy ended the Mexican War.
1853Southern Arizona annexed by the US after the Gadsden Purchase.

  • The Navajo Indian Reservation, the largest piece of land set for Indian settlement in the US, occupies the northeast section of the state, extending into Utah and New Mexico.
  • The Grand Canyon is more than a mile deep and 277 miles (446 km) long.
  • Arizona was the last state to enter in the contigious United States.
  • Four Corners is the name given to the spot where Arizona and 3 other states meet, thus it is the only spot in the US where more than 3 states meet: Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico.
